I see "Installation Failed" error when running the installer
When you encounter an "Installation Failed" error while running the BusyCal or BusyContacts installer package (.pkg file), this typically occurs because the file was downloaded to a location where macOS cannot perform proper security verification checks.
Common Causes
This installation error usually happens when the installer package is located in:
- Cloud storage folders (Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, iCloud Drive)
- Network drives or external storage
- System-protected directories
- Non-standard download locations
Solution
Step 1: Move the installer to a safe location Move the downloaded .pkg file to your Desktop or another folder within your home directory. Important: Ensure the destination folder is not inside any cloud storage service folder.
Step 2: Open the installer properly Right-click (or Option+click) on the .pkg file and select "Open..." from the context menu. This bypasses macOS Gatekeeper restrictions and allows the installer to run with proper permissions.
Why This Happens
macOS requires installer packages to be in trusted locations to perform security verification. When packages are stored in cloud service folders or non-standard locations, the system cannot complete these security checks, resulting in installation failures.
