Messages "Add Contact" opens Apple Contacts (not BusyContacts)

When you click Add Contact in macOS Messages.app, macOS opens the built‑in Contacts.app UI. BusyContacts can’t override that system behavior.

Workarounds

1) Create the contact in BusyContacts manually

1. In Messages, copy the phone number or email address.
2. In BusyContacts, create a new contact and paste it into the appropriate field.

2) Use BusyContacts URL handler (automation-friendly)

BusyContacts supports a URL handler that can create a new contact from a natural language string:

3) If your goal is “open contacts in BusyContacts”

Some launchers (like Alfred/LaunchBar) can be configured to open contacts in BusyContacts:
