BusyContacts: iCloud says "Service is currently unavailable"
If iCloud Contacts sync in BusyContacts suddenly stops working and you see messages like:
- “Service is currently unavailable. Try again later or check with service provider.”
- “Not syncing” / repeated failures when making changes
it’s usually caused by iCloud server availability or iCloud throttling.
1) Confirm you’re using an app-specific password
Apple requires third-party apps (including BusyContacts) to use an app-specific password for iCloud CardDAV sync.
2) Check Apple’s system status (and try again later)
If iCloud is having an outage or degraded performance, BusyContacts may not be able to connect reliably.
If you recently changed many contacts/tags, iCloud may also temporarily throttle sync requests. In that case, waiting can be the fastest fix.
3) Avoid repeated bulk edits if you’re seeing 503 / 427 errors
iCloud can throttle BusyContacts when doing many changes in a short period (bulk edits, bulk tagging, etc.).
